ORVILLE BURCHBY FOUNDERS CUP MINI (GROUPS 3 & 4)

In 1989, the first year of Vintage Edmonton Hockey, twenty players committed to take to the ice twice a week.

The Founders, as we call them, included: Orville Burchby(60), Dick Berrisford(55), John Armitage(60), Bob Dean(60), Arnie Enger(55), Bill Hodgson(58), Marty Larson(58), Joe Laslo(54), George Leckie(58), Roger L’Hereux(68), Art Matter(61), Howard McDonald(64), Howard Palmer(57), Bill Parker(60), George Pilbeam(60), Doug Ringrose(61), Chuck Stevenson(57), Paul Winton(60), Harvey Dobbs(62), Bill Dick(56) and Bob McQuay.

Four teams are created for a round robin tournament. In 2016 the teams began to be selected from Group 3 and 4. This event gives Group 3 and 4 members scheduled to skate on tournament day the chance to compete. 

The teams meet in the Kinsmen Arenas sports bar for lunch after the tournament. In 2016, the Boga Sports Bar became the Y.E.G. Upper Deck Pub. The Sports Bar was closed in 2017.

The winning team is presented with the Founders Cup. In 2015 the Bobby Noon Trophy (top tournament goalie) and the John Young Trophy (top tournament scorer) were added to the post tournament celebration.​

Orville Burchby's son, Mark Burchby, was on hand to present the trophy. Team Red was the winner. Following the games all the teams met upstairs for lunch and the award presentations. It was a very successful day and we thank Mark for driving up from Calgary to attend.
